"Shame on him" - Raiders HC Josh McDaniels should be ashamed of betraying Derek Carr, Emmanuel Acho claims
Ahead of the Week 17 clash with the San Francisco 49ers, the Las Vegas Raiders made the decision to bench quarterback Derek Carr for the last two games of the season.
Carr has a league-leading 14 interceptions this year, and it appears the Raiders will likely move on from him at the end of the season.
If he is cut before February, the Raiders will save $40.4 million and will only owe him about $5.6 million in dead cap.
The move to bench Carr, however, hasn't gone down well in certain corners of the league.
Former NFL linebacker and current analyst Emmanuel Acho sounded off on Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels to move on from Carr on The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
Acho said:
"Josh McDaniels, this is a terrible decision and Shame on him. Derek Carr is likely the best thing that's happened to Josh McDaniels as a head coach and you have the audacity to bench maybe the best thing that's happened to you as a head coach."
Acho went on to say that Carr was the best thing that has happened to McDaniels since he became head coach.
He added:
"Derek Carr tolerated a head coach last year that was accused of both caught being misogynistic, sexist, racist, anti semitic and any other form of interest or ism or a tick you can find. And Derek Carr weathered that storm, his former teammate and first round pick was charged with literal murder, not figurative murder. "
"He actually was charged with murder. Derek Carr weathered that storm and went to the playoffs and less than a year later, you want to bench him? Somebody should bench McDaniels."
Davante Adams says Derek Carr is the reason he became a Raider
With the news of the Raiders likely moving on from Carr at the end of the season, Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams sounded off about the rumor.
Adams stood up for Carr and said that he's the reason why he became a Raider.
Adams said:
"This man gave everything he had. The reason I'm a Raider...One of the most disciplined and loving people I know. got my bruddas back through whatever and if you can't respect it (excuse my language) Fu**k you!!! Love u bruh."
Adams was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders on March 18, 2022, in exchange for the Packers' 2022 first-round pick and second-round pick. He then signed a five-year, $141.25M deal with the team.
The trade reunited the college teammates that played ball together at Fresno State.
With Carr on his way out the door, Adams will now have a third quarterback throw for him in the last three years.
