"Your roof is leaking" - Shannon Sharpe blasts Cowboys' choice to not replace QB Dak Prescott in 2023

The Dallas Cowboys made a big move this week in getting cornerback Stephon Gilmore, but NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe still isn't happy. On "Undisputed", he claimed that the cornerback only puts the team in a position to lose in another way.

He feels the team needs to move on and find a new quarterback to replace Dak Prescott.

"I believe [Stephon Gilmore] will help your defense. But guess what, you're gonna probably lose 12 to nine. You will probably lose 10 to seven because your quarterback, despite missing five games, was top of the league in interceptions. So, in other words, turnovers are in his DNA. He had three pick-sixes..."

Will Dak Prescott be with Jerry Jones in 2025?

He continued, likening the team's management to a family ignoring a hole in their roof:

“When are you going to fix that weakness? Your roof is leaking. Why [do] you keep buying a washer and dryer…? The Cowboys keep addressing the issues that weren’t the problem. Defense wasn’t the issue, they still have Dak.”

The Cowboys went 12-5 last season. However, most fans agree they did so despite their quarterback and not because of him. Dak Prescott missed the first month of the season due to a thumb injury. When he did return, he threw for 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

It was only the second season of his career in which he didn't throw double the number of touchdowns than interceptions. He also had a passer rating of 91.1, which was the second lowest of his career.

By the time October rolled around, many believed the quarterback was in danger of losing his job to Cooper Rush.

The Cowboys beat the Lions 24-6 in Dak Prescott's return:

"My offense with Dak does not look much better than under Cooper Rush. I’ll give Dak the five-week excuse, but I was not impressed from what I saw from my offense." — @RealSkipBayless https://t.co/CkyVxVTIfe

According to Spotrac, Prescott's contract only runs until the end of 2024. If he doesn't impress this year, the team will be able to draft someone in 2024 who could sit for a season and then take over in 2025.

Will Prescott do enough to stop that idea in its tracks? Only time will tell.
