“Boy, Tom Brady made him” – Shannon Sharpe blasts Josh McDaniels for failing Derek Carr as Raiders face uncertain times

The Las Vegas Raiders announced on Wednesday afternoon that quarterback Derek Carr would be benched for the remainder of the 2022 NFL season. The reasons for this are not clear but the team has stated that it is for "non injury-related, personal" reasons.

This has led to NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe rebuking the team's head coach Josh McDaniels in strong terms.

Carr led the league with 16 interceptions this season, three of those coming in last week's Christmas eve game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With just two games remaining in the schedule, it doesn't look good for McDaniels.

The former New England Patriots offensive coordinator was a part of the franchise's dynasty. He was seen as the offensive mastermind that led Tom Brady to greatness.

On Fox Sports' Undisputed, Sharpe and Skip Bayless discussed Las Vegas' roster move and their head coach's performance in his first year with the team.

Sharpe said that McDaniels' performances without Brady, especially his record with the Raiders, suggests that TB12 was the reason for the current Raiders head coach's success.

Sharpe went as far as to say that Tom Brady made Josh McDaniels, and without the seven-time Super Bowl winner, he wouldn't have done anything.

"When he was offensive coordintor for the Rams, how did he look? How's he looking right now? So, you keep talking about product of the system, you talk about Tom Brady. Boy, Tom Brady made him, and it seems to be, without Tom Brady, he is absolutely nothing."
"We can trash Derek Carr, but since he's been in the NFL, he's had the 32nd ranked defense. Last year with a less talented roster, guess where he had this team? In the playoffs." — @ShannonSharpe https://t.co/G44jHzrcWa

Sharpe went on to add that while Carr is taking the brunt of the blame for the team not meeting expectations, McDaniels is in charge of the entire squad. The analyst added that last season, with an interim head coach, Las Vegas made the playoffs. That was, in fact, before acquiring some of the talent they have now.

Sharpe also said that the Raiders' defense is ranked as the worst in the league, yet has talented defensive who are capable of making a difference.

Who is Raiders' back up quarterback Jarrett Stidham?

The Las Vegas Raiders announced recently that Derek Carr will be benched for the rest of the season and backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham will start the final two games.

Head coach Josh McDaniels knows Stidham quite well from New England. It appears that the former feels that the quarterback could right the ship in the last two weeks.

Stidham was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft after playing most of his collegiate career at Auburn. He was initially seen as Tom Brady's successor. But after the GOAT QB left as a free agent and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots signed Cam Newton and then drafted Mac Jones.

In May 2022, the Patriots traded Stidham to Las Vegas, reuniting with his former offensive coordinator McDaniels. So far though, Stidham has thrown just 61 passes in his NFL career.
