“It’s dumb” - Shannon Sharpe blasts NFL owners’ priorities after jersey rule change

On Tuesday, the NFL announced that it will allow players to wear the number zero for this upcoming season.

Prior to this season, the number zero was not available for players to wear. While it may be a big deal to some players, most don't think that it's a bad thing for the league. Except for Shannon Sharpe.

The former Hall-of-Fame tight end sounded off on the league allowing players to wear the number one on Undisputed.

"It's dumb, Skip. I want to know which owner walked in and said, 'You know what? We need to allow these players to wear zero. Not maybe, maybe lifetime medical care, but a number change'. Like Skip, look, I've been a friend and a player in the NFL for over 40 years. I don't remember having a conversation at any point in time in my career as a fan of a player and now a fan again, 'Man I wish there was a number 0. That would be really cool.'
"What is this? I mean, seriously. Fans did you really want to see player in number 0?"

Sharpe continued:

"If we just keep giving them stuff, you know, they won't forget that our value of our franchise is to keep increase it. The salary cap keep increases, whether that their benefits don't increase here, let's give them a number of change. They've got a practice. Well, let's cut a meeting with people. You know, we'll keep them looking at bargaining for anything. Yeah, well, the big things go unnoticed. And this bull jive."

Calvin Ridley became the first player in the NFL to claim the number 0

Moments after NFL announced that they would allow players to wear number zero this season, Jacksonville Jaguars' Calvin Ridley announced he would be wearing number zero this season.

Excited to be the first @Jaguars player to wear zero - shout out to @JagsEquip! #ReadyToWork https://t.co/MfympKGWSl

Ridley became the first player in Jags history to rock the number and was technically the first player in NFL history to claim the number.

New York Giants wide receiver Parris Campbell will also be rocking the number zero this season.

So Parris Campbell will wear number 0 this year for the New York Giants.

In a related story, zero should be the number of NFC East losses the Giants are going to have this year.

Could Micah Parsons become the next player to wear number zero?

While allowing players to wear number zero isn't a big deal, some fans and players are upset that the league didn't allow teams to review roughing-the-passer calls.

Maybe next year, the NFL will approve a rule the absence of which seems costly very often in the league.
