Shannon Sharpe insists Joe Burrow is still no where near Patrick Mahomes despite 3-0 record against Chiefs superstar

Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals defeated Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24 on Sunday afternoon at home. This was a rematch of the AFC Championship game from earlier in 2022 when the Bengals won themselves a trip to Super Bowl LVI.

Burrow is now 3-0 against Mahomes and the Chiefs, making this another AFC rivalry among the National Football League's younger talent. On FOX Sports' "Undisputed" on Monday morning, NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe was asked if he believes Joe Burrow is better than Patrick Mahomes. Sharpe got straight to the point and said 'no'.

He said that he would still choose Mahomes over Joe Burrow, although he is undefeated when they play each other. He said Cincinnati only won by three points and it came down to a turnover.

"No, I still would take Patrick Mahomes over Joe Burrow, although he does play really, really well when he plays Patrick Mahomes, this team played well. And if you look at the three games, they've all come down to, what, three points? And it's normally a turnover in the game.
"That's the quarterbacks ... are pretty closely matched the offense. The teams obviously met. Although I do believe Joe Burrow has more firepower when you look at the way they can run the ball with Perine. Joe Mixon did not even play yesterday. They get Ja'marr Chase back. They get Higgins.
"They got Boyd. I like Hurst as a tight end, even though he did not play. He didn't do any. He didn't. He didn't do any damage without."

Sharpe also gave credit to the Bengals offense for being so dynamic. He said the Chiefs defense needed to choose which player to defend. He also said that, when the Chiefs left a player like Tyler Boyd with one-on-one coverage, Cincinnati made them pay for that.

"But you look at those three receivers, Skip, and you got to pick your poison. How do we play it? We play cover two. They're going to run us out of cover two because of Perine's going to run the ball. And he had a great day running the football yesterday ... 21 rushing yards, 106 yards, five yards carry.
"If we try to play man coverage, do we really want to single up Higgins and Ja'marr Chase? Oh, do we leave Boyd one on one? And you saw them take advantage of it."

Sharpe then added that both teams were evenly matched and that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is from Cincinnati, didn't play as sharp and clean as he usually does.

"These games, when you have evenly matched teams, normally come down to a turnover, and if I could tell Travis Kelce anything, I know he's going back home. He's from Cincinnati, the Heights, he wants to play. Well, sometimes, you got to know where to turn. He's over fighting for extra yards."

The Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Benagls could very well meet up again in the AFC playoffs. That could be a defining factor for who will continue to win this rivalry.

Is Bengals QB Joe Burrow in the MVP conversation?

The Cincinnati Bengals are now 8-4 and tied for the AFC North division lead with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens will likely be without quarterback Lamar Jackson for the next few weeks as he deals with a knee injury. This could leave the door wide open for the Bengals.

While Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen have been highly discussed as possible NFL MVP candidates, Joe Burrow has now joined the conversation.

After Sunday's win over the Chiefs, his third in a row, Burrow has shown that he can lead his team to victory over the top teams in the National Football League. He went 25 of 31 for 286 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, 46 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on Sunday afternoon.

Through Week 13 of this season, Burrow now has 3,446 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns to just eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 224 yards and five touchdowns. That puts him just 40 passing yards ahead of Allen and 362 below Mahomes. This makes him an ideal candidate for NFL MVP of the 2022 season if his stats and play are similar to the other two candidates.
