Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless nearly come to blows during heated debate regarding Panthers' Baker Mayfield

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield is not having the season he expected for the franchise. The Panthers sit with a 3-8 record after losing to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11 at home. Mayfield started the game under center for the Panthers and didn't have the best of days.

Shannon Sharpe wasted no time going in on the first-overall pick from the 2018 NFL Draft. On Undisputed, Sharpe had a few choice words for the quarterback, much to the anger of co-host Skip Bayless. Here's what Sharpe said:

"Baker Mayfield is dead last in 2022 in QBR, he's 57.8. He's 33rd in completion percentage... You gonna let me talk?"

Bayless interjected several times. Passions were high as Sharpe continued:

"He's a bum. He's trash and you know it. And every time you bring him up, I'm going to let the world know exactly what he is."

During Sharpe's rant, Bayless could be heard mocking him, saying "blah, blah, blah." It wasn't so much the words that were said, but the atmosphere between them. Watch the video below:

In that loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Baker Mayfield went 21 of 33 passing attempts for 196 yards and two interceptions. The quarterback was honest about his performance against the Ravens after the game:

"It's tough. I'll be honest with you. I put my heart and soul in this, and this sucks. I just hope everybody else feels the same way, to be honest with you. That's how you turn things around. You have to care about it. You do."

The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner has started six games this season for Carolina. He's thrown for under 200 yards in four of his six starts. He's had a quarterback rating above 80 in just two of those starts. The 27-year-old signal-caller is currently in his first season with the Panthers after spending the first four with the Cleveland Browns.

Baker Mayfield's 2022 NFL season thus far

Baker Mayfield was looking for a change of scenery when he was traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Carolina Panthers this offseason. However, the weather has been gloomy this season in Carolina. Overall, Mayfield has thrown for 1,313 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions.

He has a quarterback rating of 74.4 with a touchdown and an interception percentage of 2.9 percent. Out of the 35 quarterbacks, his touchdown percentage ranks 29th in the NFL, while his interception percentage is tied for the fifth-highest.

The runner-up for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is having a rough campaign and this could be his final chance as an NFL starter. We will see if Baker Mayfield can turn it around in the coming weeks.
