Shannon Sharpe takes dig at Donald Trump over New York attorney general’s civil fraud deposition
It's a new month and a new Donald Trump story, one that Shannon Sharpe has seemingly taken an interest in.
Sharpe recently took umbrage at Donald Trump as a video surfaced of the former United States President's deposition this week.
Back in August, Trump was deposed in a lawsuit and reportedly accused of inflating property values. In a video released this week, Trump is heard repeatedly pleading the fifth while answering questions from New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
Trump denied all wrongdoing, ultimately referring to it as a 'witch hunt'. Sharpe, however, wasn't convinced.
"Thought innocent ppl didn’t take the 5th?" Shannon Sharpe tweeted in response.
His comment was a dig at Trump's innocence, which has been insisted upon by the former POTUS himself.
CBS News first shared the footage, which had many people raising questions on social media. Trump even called out AG James for being an 'out of control prosecutor'. As per Trump, this whole affair was quite unfair on him.
“Anyone in my position not taking the fifth amendment would be a fool, an absolute fool,” Trump said in the video.
That being said, some users seemed to agree with Sharpe. They spoke more about Trump's deposition and how he kept repeating the same thing over and over again. Others mentioned current president Joe Biden and how support is divided at the moment.
A few wondered if this was a chance for ESPN to launch another segment, probably called 'Politics with Shannon.'
Not the first time Shannon Sharpe has addressed Donald Trump
Most of Sharpe's career as an analyst includes him making candid and bold statements about the NFL, the NBA and even Donald Trump. Of course, this isn't the first time Sharpe has spoken against the 76-year-old businessman.
Last year, Sharpe was in the spotlight for making a few unflattering comments about Trump. Back then, he said he would rather pay an exorbitant price at the pump than have Trump back in office.
Sharpe was asked if he still hated Trump, to which he replied:
"I’d rather pay 20 bucks a gallon than have Trump in office. Hope that answers your question," Sharpe wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
He received mixed reactions from Twitter users, many referring to Sharpe as ignorant.
Sharpe seemingly did not take into consideration what the average Joe was going through at the time. Others supported Sharpe's claim, adding that while they made a lot less money, they still wouldn't want Donald Trump back in office.
