Should Lamar Jackson get an agent in 2023? Mike Florio demands Ravens QB get his act together

Lamar Jackson made headlines when it was revealed that he would be using his mother as the point of contact between himself and potential check-cutters. Now, after years of stalled negotiations, the decision finds itself under fire once again.

In an article written by Mike Florio on Pro Football Talk, the analyst pressured the quarterback to follow the conventional practice:

"A skilled and connected agent can explain to these teams the path to getting Lamar to sign an offer sheet that the Ravens perhaps wouldn’t or couldn’t match. A skilled and connected agent could work the media to create the impression, true or otherwise, that a bidding war will emerge for Jackson’s services."

Will the Ravens need a new quarterback in 2023?

Florio continued, explaining that the move might get a team to the table that otherwise wouldn't be interested:

"A truly skilled and connected agent could even get a team that truly isn’t interested in Jackson to feign interest as a favor, possibly getting some other team to come to the table."

Heading into this week, analysts have spent dozens of hours explaining and re-explaining the franchise tag situation facing Lamar Jackson. Essentially, the team was able to lock him up for a year and throw away the key with one type of tag. Another type of tag lets him see if he can convince another team to pay a premium for him.

Are the Ravens trying to suppress the QB market?

If he can get another team on the board, Lamar Jackson would be sent to the franchise in question in return for two first-round picks. Compared to Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson's trade in the last roughly 12 months, the price would be much lower in terms of draft capital.

However, the quarterback must now win in the meeting room as well as he did on the gridiron to secure his release from Ravens. Does the quarterback have one more good pitch in him?
