Simone Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens details “crazy” travel schedule for rare excused absence from training camp
Jonathan Owens is getting something Aaron Rodgers didn't this summer. The new Bears player received permission from his organization to take time off during a mandatory summer practice to cross the Atlantic. Simone Biles's husband is set to travel to Paris to watch his wife compete live in the Olympics.
Speaking on Monday's edition of "Good Morning Football," Owens detailed his intense schedule for the day as it appears he will be heading out on Monday.
"It's been pretty crazy. Every time, I look on my phone, someone's talking about it. Basically, I'm going to practice today. My flight is later this evening, so I end up getting there. It'll be 9 a.m., Paris time," he said.
"And then she competes that’s the evening, so I'll try to get acclimated to Paris and maybe sneak and see her and make sure her mind's right and everything. But I'm super excited to be there, so can't wait," he said. [00:01:13][24.9] GMFB
Owens will likely try to sleep on the flight, as it appears that he will get plenty of time to kill en route. According to Google Flights, the shortest flights are about eight hours long. If he gets on the plane before his normal bedtime, he can simply sleep on the flight and have a full day to settle into Paris.
Jonathan Owens heads to watch Simone Biles compete in Olympics for first time
Jonathan Owens is set to watch an athletic event instead of play in one.
The Bears are featured in this week's Hall of Fame game against the Houston Texans. Coincidentally enough, Owens is heading to Paris to watch Houston native Biles compete in gymnastics.
This will be Owens' first time watching his wife compete in the Olympics. According to USA Today, via NBC Sports, Covid-19 derailed any attempts to watch her in person in 2020. Before that, the two had not started dating when the 2016 Olympics took place.
Biles could compete as late as Thursday, according to USA Today, depending on how well the team does.
