"An old shot man" - Skip Bayless outlines stakes for Ezekiel Elliott with ex-Cowboys star out of a job

Former Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliot was a name synonymous with the brand going back to the mid 20-teens. However, the running back's run with the team is at an end.

According to comments made on "Undisputed" by analyst Skip Bayless, Elliot's run in the league could also be at a close. Here's how he put it:

"There's only one way that I see Zeke playing in the National Football League next year. And that's if these three teams (New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and Philadelphia Eagles), his agent allegedly says he's trying to decide among [take him]."

Will Ezekiel Elliot play in the NFL in 2023?

Bayless continued by explaining a telling post made by New York Jets RB Breece Hall on Twitter:

"[Breece Hall and Ezekiel Elliot] went back and forth at each other on Twitter [over the weekend]. Breece Hall's tweet was, 'We good over here.' They deleted the tweets but they were talking about Zeke. And so they're looking at Zeke and Breece Hall's 21 years of age and Mike Carter's 23.
"They're looking at him as an old shot man like he's just done."
"There's only one way I see Zeke playing in the NFL next year..."

Ezekiel Elliot puts exclamation point on Cowboys' offseason offensive overhaul

Ezekiel Elliot might be the highest profile change for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023, but it was far from the only one.

Before Dallas elected to cut ties with the running back, it had already parted ways with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Head coach Mike McCarthy will be taking a bigger place in the playcalling as a result.

According to ESPN, the Cowboys also traded a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick for Brandin Cooks. Tony Pollard was given a franchise tag as well, foreshadowing a potential breakout deal coming soon. Alternately, it could lead to offseason drama at the end of the 2023 season in a similar vein to Lamar Jackson.

Of course, Elliot will first need to prove that he can overcome the ankle injury that came at the end of the Cowboys' 2022 playoff run.
