Skip Bayless tears into Bill Belichick for comparing Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to 3x Super Bowl champion duo
With Bill Belichick doing so many shows, he is dishing out his expert opinion on all things football. And Skip Bayless is not one to mince words, especially when it comes to his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.
In a recent episode of Belichick's new show, "Coach," the eight-time Super Bowl champion (six as a head coach, two as a defensive coordinator) broke down the heartbreaking (for Bayless) 44-19 defeat of the Cowboys at the hands of the visiting New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
What irked Bayless was the comparison Belichick drew between Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to the San Francisco 49ers' three-time Super Bowl champion pairing of Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Joe Montana.
"As I watched it, I actually thought it was a spoof, so I watched it back, and it sounds like Belichick is making the case that Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb are at least as difficult to defend as Montana and Rice were back in their 49ers days. What?!" Bayless said.
According to Bayless, Bill Belichick is nothing but an overhyped coach and now that he's doing so many shows, people are going to become disillusioned with him.
"Belichick worked harder than any coach I've ever been around or closely observed at saying nothing in interview sessions," Bayless said. "And did his genius mystique ever grow because of that? Is it possible that now that Belichick, the broadcaster, is forced to open up and go into depth about football, that he's getting exposed?"
Could Bill Belichick be eyeing the Cowboys' HC role?
Skip Bayless said that Belichick was overhyping the Cowboys duo so that he could get into the good graces of Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
"Then again, I guess it's possible Belichick overhype Dak and CD to remind Jerry Jones what a great next Cowboy coach Bill Belichick would be," Bayless said.
But is that realistic? The Cowboys did spectacularly well in the regular season last year. But when it came to the playoffs, they tanked miserably. Many, including Bayless, had called for the firing of coach Mike McCarthy.
While McCarthy has a .500 career record, Belichick is at .705. The Cowboys last made it to the Super Bowl in 1996. That's a 28-year drought. It's highly likely that if they don't make a deep playoff run in this season, Jerry Jones may finally lose his patience with McCarthy and show him the door.
And with Bill Belichick available on the market, and considering his good relationship with Jones, could we see Belichick don the Cowboys' star?
