Skip Bayless voices major complaint against Jerry Jones as CeeDee Lamb continues training camp holdout
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb appears ready to hold out from team activities. As the star wideout for the Cowboys is looking for a contract extension, news surfaced last night that Lamb is not expected to report to training camp with the rest of the team tonight. He was not on Dallas' charter flight from Dallas on Tuesday and is expected to miss Dallas' first practice this Thursday.
NFL personality and lifelong Cowboys fan Skip Bayless, who hosts "Undisputed," lashed out at Jerry Jones for how he's handling Lamb's situation. He thinks the Cowboys are "all out" on Lamb after they said they were "all-in" before the start of the off-season. Bayless said:
"Never has there ever been a more misleading quote that came out of one man's mouth and Jerry saying, "We're all in" at the early stages of the offseason. And they are all out. CeeDee's deal is not only on the front burner right now but the pot has caught on fire and the smoke alarm is going off and somewhere upstairs, Jerry is sitting in his office asleep. I think he's in his chair and he's napping. And this is this is beyond wrong."
Each day that goes by that Lamb is without a contract extension, the more concerning it is for Dallas. Both sides ideally would like to have a contract extension done before the season starts.
What could a CeeDee Lamb contract extension look like?
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson reset the wide receiver market this off-season by signing a four-year, $140 million deal that included $110 million guaranteed. The $35 million a year contract is the highest-paid player in NFL history that's a non-QB.
This off-season, two more wide receivers signed contract extensions that exceeded $30 million per season. Amon-Ra St. Brown signed a four-year $120 million contract extension with the Detroit Lions and A.J. Brown signed a three-year $96 million extension with the Philadelphia Eagles.
With Tyreek Hill signing a four-year $120 million deal with Miami a few seasons ago, there are currently four wide receivers in the NFL, who making more than $30 million per season.
CeeDee Lamb led the league in receptions (135) last season while also setting career highs in receiving yards (1,749) and touchdown receptions (14.) He was also named a First-Team All-Pro.
With the wide receiver market reset this off-season, CeeDee Lamb could look for a deal similar to Jefferson's in the $30-$35 million per season range.
