“So much like Favre” - Peter King joins the dots on Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre as Jets wait on trade
Sportswriter Peter King appeared on "The Dan Patrick Show" on Thursday afternoon and of course the topic of conversation was Aaron Rodgers.
King said that there are similarities between the Rodgers situation and quarterback Brett Favre in regards to their tenure with the Green Bay Packers.
“So much like Favre”
King said that both quarterbacks chose to end their time with the Packers and essentially chose to play for the New York Jets afterwards. Both felt the heat with a younger quarterback waiting in the wings for their opportunity. The 65-year-old said that although there are so many similarities between the two there is also one key difference as well.
He said that the key difference being that Aaron Rodgers is clearly excited and willing to play for the Jets. Whereas Favre almost begrudgingly decided to play for the New York-based franchise. He said that factor could mean all the difference in how the season plays out.
King also said that it is imperative for the Jets and Packers to come to an agreement on the trade sooner rather than later. To ensure that the quarterback doesn't miss any valuable time with his offense in preparation for the season.
What compensation are the Packers looking for in return for QB Aaron Rodgers?
While speaking on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Wednesday afternoon, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said that he intends to play for the New York Jets this upcoming season.
He said that the compensation for the trade is the only thing stopping the deal from being finalized. So, what are the Packers asking the Jets for in return for the four-time NFL MVP?
According to ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Packers are asking for two first-round draft picks in exchange for the quarterback. The hold-up is that the Jets are likely only willing to give up one first-round draft pick and another late-round pick or picks. Seeing as Rodgers will be playing in his age-40 season, that would be a low-risk for them.
The Jets are also well aware of the indecisiveness of their soon-to-be new quarterback. If they were to give up two first-round picks and then if Aaron Rodgers choose to retire after next season, they would find themselves in a difficult position.
So age and his decision-making are obviously playing key roles in the type of trade package the two teams are working out.
