Travis Kelce gets candid about Odell Beckham Jr. rumors after Chiefs’ latest ploy to clear cap space
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce remains coy on rumors of free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. joining his team again. With so many teams thought to be vying for his services, it appears that the Chiefs are doing more than most.
Kelce revealed on the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason that the Chiefs have restructured his contract. That normally only means one thing: Another player is coming in. Just who that player is though, well Kelce remained tight-lipped.
“I’m not sure yet, it’s a start to a move, right? You’re freeing up cap space to be able to [do] something. My agent just hit me up and said that they want to free up some cap space, so I was like, I get it, the money now? Alright. And it frees up cap space for us to get better as a team.”
Kelce then stated his hope that OBJ will indeed be back with the Chiefs.
“I want them to come true [Beckham Jr. rumours], I have not heard anything in the locker room or anything around the facility. Something’s in the air for sure.”
Would Odell Beckham Jr. help the Chiefs?
Without a doubt he would. The Chiefs have had no problem putting up points so far in 2022 either, having already gone past 40 twice and hit the 30-point mark once.
The likes of Juju Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, and rookie Skyy Moore have all made plays. Adding Odell Beckham Jr. to the mix would put the Chiefs over the top.
The contract reshuffle usually only happens when a team is trying to free up cap space to sign another player. The free agent wide receiver has been in the headlines of late with many teams being seen as a potential landing spot for him.
Buffalo is another team that is seriously interested in the 29-year-old. Green Bay is another team that is said to be interested in the receiver, but going by Kelce's comments, the Chiefs appear to be the ones in the driving seat.
With a host of good teams wanting for the receiver, he will have his pick of where he wants to continue his NFL career. Where will that be? Time will tell.
