Stephen A Smith absolves Dak Prescott, slams "soft" Cowboys defense
No one seemed happier after Dak Prescott's team lost miserably to the New Orleans Saints than Stephen A Smith. The defeat ended the Dallas Cowboys' 16-game home winning streak.
After the Cowboys' 44-19 loss, Smith posted a video on X where he laughed euphorically and said that he couldn't wait for Monday's episode of "First Take."
"Monday can't come sooner."
On Monday, he fired his shots at the Cowboys during the show. Although many expected that he would set his crosshairs on quarterback Dak Prescott, that wasn't the case.
Instead, he blamed the Cowboys' defense for allowing the Saints to score 44 points. It was the most points the team allowed since 2020.
"[9:43] The Dallas Cowboys don’t have a good defense. We thought they did, watching them against Cleveland, but when you bring a running game, they don’t know what to do. They’re fast and skilled, but that’s not enough when you’re soft," Smith said.
In a surprising turn of events, and following the footsteps of Tom Brady, Smith even absolved Dak Prescott and the offense.
"[7:02] Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys' offense, they were put in a bad spot."
Smith then said that he sympathizes with Cowboys fans who spent their hard-earned money to be at the stadium to watch their team and witness the "atrocity" on Sunday Night Football.
Shannon Sharpe unwilling to let Dak Prescott off the hook
Stephen A. Smith gave his take, but Shannon Sharpe did not let Prescott off easily. He argued that the Cowboys' defense could be blamed for the loss, but Prescott was not able to match the production of their opponents' offense.
"You know, Dak is allowed to score touchdowns when the other team scores. Stephen A.," Sharpe said. "You say you don't want to put this on Dak. When the Saints got the ball, they scored and then kicked off. What was Dak allowed to do?"
In the coming weeks, the Cowboys will face the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers. According to Dan Orlovsky, Dak Prescott and his team just need to figure out how to crack their running game as all of them follow the same scheme. It remains to be seen if the Cowboys succeed in doing that.
