Stephen A. Smith calls on Aaron Rodgers to “tell the truth” following denial of involvement in Robert Saleh’s forced exit

Aaron Rodgers' role in Robert Saleh's firing might be the biggest story of October thus far, and as such, NFL analysts are spending dozens of hours per day giving their thoughts on the details. Even some of the Jets players are chiming in, including Rodgers.

Rumors and accusations have run rampant that Rodgers had a role in Robert Saleh's firing. The New York Jets quarterback has denied the accusations, to Stephen A. Smith's dismay. Speaking on an Oct. 10 edition of "First Take," the analyst called on Rodgers to "stop the nonsense."

3:52 Stephen A. Smith "Just stop that nonsense. It's amazing how it's so difficult for folks to just simply tell the truth. There are plenty of decisions that bosses make, that we have nothing to do with and we have no part of," he said.
"That's true, but in the same breath, it's not like we're completely oblivious and not cognizant of what the hell is going on. And when Aaron Rodgers tried to give that impression, that's when I think the believability factor went out the window," he added.

In other words, even if Rodgers didn't play a direct role in convincing general manager Joe Douglas or owner Woody Johnson, he should have been more open. Specifically, Smith called on him to explain that he knew about this potential outcome.

No matter where the Jets turn in regard to the Buffalo Bills contest, there is a reason for stress. First, Saleh's exit arguably sets the precedent that anyone could be traded, fired or otherwise removed at any moment. Second, the team faces the Buffalo Bills, who have won the AFC East every year for the last half-decade.

Third, the game will take place on prime time, giving the entire country a front-row seat to learn if Jeff Ulbrich has what it takes to pull a win out. Additionally, at 2-3, Garrett Wilson's Jets are one game from falling to the dreaded 2-4 record, which is often a catalyst for lowering expectations from fanbases across the country.

However, they also are one game below .500. If they can get to .500, the playoffs are back on the menu as a possibility. In some ways, the upcoming game against the Bills could define the Jets' season, as they risk elongating their losing streak to three straight weeks.

Will Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall be able to pull off what many would call a stunning result?
