Stephen A. Smith expresses concern for Jerry Jones after Cowboys' loss on his 82nd birthday - "He shouldn't deserve something like that"

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager turned 82 on Sunday, but it wasn't a pleasant birthday as his team suffered a disappointing 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium.

The game was virtually over early in the fourth quarter when the visitors scored their fifth touchdown of the game with over 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter, which saw them extend their lead to 38 points. The Lions were so comfortable that they even sent in offensive tackle Dan Skipper on a play as a wide receiver.

Cowboys critic and ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith thoroughly enjoyed the Cowboys' blowout loss but showcased empathy for Jones. In a video posted on his X account, he said:

"I know you saw what happened today. Not a victory. But a blowout on Jerry's birthday. By the way, I'm not happy about that. My buddy Jerry Jones on his 82nd birthday, he shouldn't deserves something like that, but we'll address that another day. All I can say is what an a*s whooping. What an a*s whooping!"

Despite the harrowing loss to the Lions and his team's 3-3 record, Jones isn't looking to make any substantial changes to the team.

Jerry Jones comments on Mike McCarthy's immediate future as Cowboys HC

After the game, Jerry Jones told reporters that the loss was "very concerning" and "very humbling" and labeled it a shocker. However, when he was asked if he'd consider a personnel change or replacing Mike McCarthy as the Cowboys' head coach, the 82-year-old owner and general manager said:

"I'm not ready to talk about changes right now... I haven't even considered that. I'm not considering that."

McCarthy is in the final year of the five-year deal he signed with the Cowboys in 2020. He was brought in to help the franchise end its near-three-decade-long wait for a Super Bowl win.

However, in his first four seasons as the head coach, McCarthy made it to the postseason thrice and won only one game. He's 1-3 in the playoffs as head coach of the Cowboys.

Firing the 60-year-old may not be on Jones' agenda but neither will be handing him a new deal if Dallas' campaign continues to spiral downward.
