Stephen Jones makes Cowboys' intentions clear ahead of NFL trade deadline
Could the Dallas Cowboys make a move before tomorrow's NFL trade deadline? Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones hasn't ruled out the possibility.
Tomorrow's trade deadline for the 2024 NFL season will expire at 4 p.m. ET. With a little over 24 hours remaining, Dallas could be an active team in the final hours.
On "105.3 The Fan," Jones spoke about the team potentially making a move before the deadline.
"I certainly wouldn’t rule it out," Jones said. ... "Trades are always both ways. … If something makes sense then we’d certainly look at it.”
With a 3-5 record, Dallas should be sellers instead of buyers. Though the season isn’t over, the Cowboys sit third in the NFC East, trailing the 7-2 Washington Commanders.
A few weeks ago, the Cowboys' mindset was what could they do to flip things around and compete for the division.
Dallas has been hit hard by injuries to key players like Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs, who's playing with a calf tear. With these setbacks, the team’s chances of contending look slim.
The Dallas Cowboys' injuries continue to pile up with Dak Prescott expected to miss a few weeks
Dallas received horrible news early Monday afternoon regarding quarterback Dak Prescott.
Prescott left yesterday's game against the Atlanta Falcons after he suffered a hamstring injury. After the game, Prescott told reporters that he felt something pull that he'd never felt before.
The injury is expected to keep Prescott out for multiple weeks, and the Cowboys are considering putting him on injured reserve.
So now the Cowboys are expected to be without Prescott for multiple games. Dallas could take the safe route by keeping him sidelined for an extended time if Dallas doesn't win many games in his absence.
Even if the playoffs become more out of reach, coach Mike McCarthy will be playing for his job, as his contract expires after this season. How the Cowboys finish their season could determine McCarthy's fate.
At 3-5 and with the recent news of Prescott expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks, things don't look good for Dallas for the rest of the season.
