Steve Harvey learning about Patrick Mahomes’ heritage had NFL stars in a fit

Since Tom Brady announced his retirement, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been christened the face of the NFL. He is arguably the best quarterback in the league, and few have an issue with that claim.

Mahomes' brilliance has also been the wind beneath the wings of African-American athletes, in addition to the fact that he's the son of former MLB pitcher Patrick Mahomes Sr.

During the 2019 NFL Honors, Steve Harvey seemed surprised to learn that Mahomes is of African-American descent, a moment that NFL stars will not forget too soon.

Here's what Steve Harvey said during the 2019 NFL Honors:

"This is Black history, So, let's have a little Black history moment, shout out to all the quarterbacks that started in the NFL, five quarterbacks that were of African-American descent started in the playoffs. I just found out it was five, I thought it was four till Patrick Mahomes took his helmet off."

Mahomes has always been proud of his African-American ancestry and has embraced everything that comes with it. He is held to higher standards than other quarterbacks, although this is partly due to his on-field excellence, to which everyone has grown accustomed.

Mahomes will play in his third Super Bowl in just five seasons after taking over as the Chiefs' starting quarterback. That, in and of itself, is a fantastic accomplishment that few could match.

How you gonna do our quarterback like that? 😂

It would be fair to say that as of now, in just five seasons as a starting quarterback in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes has just about cemented his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Chiefs quarterback is on the verge of winning his second MVP award, and could also win his second Super Bowl in a matter of days. He has led the franchise to five consecutive home AFC Championship Games, which is no ordinary feat.

"He's a magician."

He is already being compared to the likes of Tom Brady, Joe Montana and Peyton Manning as he has already leapfrogged the likes of Josh Allen and Joe Burrow this season. If Mahomes continues in the same vein, there is no denying that he could end up as the greatest quarterback to grace the game.
