Steve Young offers advice to Aaron Rodgers for 2024 NFL season after Jets QB's return from Egypt trip
Aaron Rodgers will be entering the 2024 NFL season after a successful rehab of the Achilles injury he suffered last year. The New York Jets quarterback is eager to get back on the field. San Francisco 49ers icon Steve Young had a few words of wisdom for the Jets QB.
Young, who was playing in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Nevada, was a guest on the Rich Eisen show. He spoke all things NFL and discussed what it would take for Rodgers to have a successful 2024 season with the Jets. [from 2:11].
"You have to stay, game to game 16-18-17 games, you have to stay healthy, Young said. "So okay, number one. So if he stays healthy, then it's around, 'does he get the help that he needs?' Right? Does he get protected? Are they going to protect him?"
Young continued, explaining that Rodgers can make the most of the rules in today's game if he stays healthy because he developed in a much more sophisticated time.
"He learned in a much more rigorous time. He is going to take advantage of today's game, where the rule changes and the pressure on defenses. Even this year, we can't drag a guy down."
"Everything's working against the defenses for the last 10 years. And he's the guy that grew up in a very sophisticated time where nobody was open. So if he gets protected, he's gonna kill it."
Jets QB Aaron Rodgers ready to get back to work after Egypt trip
Aaron Rodgers received backlash this offseason for missing out on the mandatory minicamp in June, after his full attendance for the OTAs. It was reported that the four-time NFL MVP was on a trip to Egypt. Speaking to NBC Sports while playing in the American Century Championship golf tournament, Rodgers confirmed the reports of his Egypt trip.
"I felt good all spring. Had a nice OTAs. Had a beautiful trip to Egypt. This is like the last marker. Summer's over on Sunday. Walking up on 18 (18th hole at American Century Championship) is super bittersweet, but it's fun to be out."
Rodgers is now eager to get back to work mode. His 2023 season was cut short prematurely with an Achilles injury, just four plays into the first game. Rodgers was closer to returning at the end of last year but ultimately decided to reset for 2024. The Jets QB shed light on his recovery.
"My Achilles feels good, you know, I felt really good at the end of last year," Rodgers said, via NBC Sports. "Then you know, there's always that kind of plateau part. It's just about getting back into it. I felt good."
The New York Jets will begin their training camp later this month, on July 24. The team veterans will have to report to camp on July 23.
