Super Bowl champ LeSean McCoy dismisses concerning narrative surrounding Joe Burrow
Is this season a 'make-or-break-season for Cincinnati Bengals' quarterback Joe Burrow? Former NFL running back and "Speak" analyst LeSean McCoy doesn't think so.
After a disappointing start last season, Burrow started playing in the middle of the season before suffering a season-ending wrist injury. He recorded 5-5 as the team's starting quarterback. The Bengals missed the playoffs and finished last place in the American Football Conference - North division with a 9-8 record.
Burrow looks to bounce back a season after signing one of the biggest contracts in NFL history. Many view this season as a 'make-or-break- season for the veteran QB. McCoy argued that narrative on "Speak," saying that Burrow has proven he is a winner and can be great when he's healthy.
"Not for Joe Burrow. He’s that good. He’s that great. And he’s that young," McCoy said.
"He’s only 27 years old. When he’s at his best, he’s healthy, we know his ceiling … we don’t need to see it now. We know eventually that it’s going to show up."
Burrow led the Bengals to the Super Bowl during the 2021-2022 season, where the Bengals lost to the Los Angeles Rams by a close score of 23-20.
Joe Burrow is eager to prove himself in 2024
When healthy, Joe Burrow has proven he is one of the best QBs in the NFL. He led the Bengals to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2021 and 2022. He has a postseason record of 5-2 while leading Cincy to the Super Bowl.
As Burrow returns from a season-ending injury, all eyes are on him. But Burrow looks forward to proving himself as a franchise QB.
"People forget about you... If you’re not out there and people aren’t watching you, then there’s nothing to talk about. I’m going to give people something to talk about this year. I’m excited about it,” Burrow said a week ago (via ProFootballTalk).
Burrow has a 29-22-1 record in four NFL seasons. He has thrown for 14,083 yards, 97 touchdowns, 37 interceptions and rushed for 605 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also holds the NFL record for the best completion percentage at 68%.
Even with a healthy Burrow playing his 'A' game, it will be tough for the Bengals to win the division in a crowded AFC North.
