Super Bowl effect: Pedro Pascal's The Last Of Us rescheduled to avoid competition with NFL

The Last of Us may be taking the television world by storm, but it still bows its head to the Super Bowl. This is true of most television programming as the time at which the big game occurs is almost always a dead time frame for other networks.

Even though the Pedro Pascal-led television show is one of the biggest in television history, everyone's eyes will be in Arizona on Sunday evening for the Super Bowl.

GameSpot reporter Eddie Makuch said:

"The next episode of HBO's The Last of Us will air this Friday, not Sunday, in a break from tradition to help avoid a clash with the Super Bowl. HBO has announced that Episode 5 will air this Friday, February 10, instead of its usual Sunday night slot."

However, the television broadcast, which traditionally occurs at the same time as the HBO Max stream, will proceed as usual:

"The episode is set for release at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET that day. The traditional linear TV broadcast will go ahead as scheduled on HBO this Sunday, February 12, at the usual time-- 9 PM ET."

Ordinarily, every Sunday night at 9 pm EST, all eyes are on Pascal, Bella Ramsey and the world of The Last of Us. However, this Sunday, that will probably be some time early in the third quarter, so almost no one is going to leave the big game to catch the latest episode.

HBO realizes this, so they're offering it up two whole days earlier. Fans of the show who wait anxiously each week won't complain about the schedule change.

NFL fans who have been enthralled by yet another incredible Pedro Pascal performance will be pleased they can watch the episode live and not miss a second of the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

What is The Last of Us about?

The Last of Us is the latest dystopian show to hit the screens and it has almost everyone watching.

It's set in America 20 years after a fungal infection spread and created zombies. Pedro Pascal's character has to take charge of Bella Ramsey's character, who seems to be immune to the disease.

Fortunately, episode five will be here before the Super Bowl on Sunday.
