Super Bowl-winning former Giants WR puts Brian Daboll in hot seat after 0-2 start

Former New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz thinks coach Brian Daboll could be out of New York after this season.

Being a former WR in NY, Cruz understands the pressure Daboll is in. In an interview with Clutch Points, Cruz, who won Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants in 2012, voiced his thoughts on owner John Mara potentially moving on from Daboll.

"I think he provided a necessary spark, the players love him. He's a players' coach that guys love, but he also has that strong mentality to galvanize the guys, which I also love. But as you know in this league, it's what have you done for me lately? So I don't know.
"I think if he doesn't have a good year, if they don't have a year over .500 and potentially in the hunt (playoffs), I could see John Mara in the front office looking for a different head coach and looking for someone that can get them over the hump — I know John Mara wants to be in those conversations — If he feels like he needs to make a change at the head coaching position at the end of the year, I think he'll do so."

Daboll, who was hired in 2022, had success in his first season as the team's coach, finishing the season 9-7-1 while making the playoffs.

After the Giants failed to put together a winning season in each of the last two campaigns, they're off to a slow start this season, with a 0-2 record. They suffered a Week 1 blowout loss to the Minnesota Vikings and then, a close 21-18 loss to the Washington Commanders yesterday.

Yesterday, the New York Giants suffered their second loss of the season to their division rivals, the Washington Commanders. The Giants lost by a score of 21-18, and interestingly enough, they were beaten despite not allowing a touchdown.

Washington Commanders' kicker Austin Seibert nailed seven field goals, scoring all 21 of Washington's points.

The Giants scored three touchdowns, but couldn't make any of their extra points. Giants kicker Graham Gano was injured before the game and punter Jamie Gillan missed the first extra point attempt. The Giants went for two points in their last two touchdowns and failed both of them.

The Giants became the second team in NFL history to lose a game while scoring three touchdowns and not allowing one. The 1989 Minnesota Vikings were the first team to accomplish that feat.

This wasn't the kind of history Brian Daboll and the Giants were hoping to make yesterday.
