Super Bowl-winning LSU alum Tyrann Mathieu refuses to give up on Tigers despite Brian Kelly's fist-slamming meltdown

Tyrann Mathieu had been with the Tigers before Brian Kelly took over. However, despite leaving the team behind after the 2011 season, he continues to follow the team. Not only that, but he continues to cheer for them even when times get tough.

On September 2, Mathieu expressed his support via Twitter/X.

"I still believe!!! HOW BAD DO WE WANT IT?. LETS GEAUX," he wrote.

The season hasn't begun for the Tigers as many expected. Brian Kelly is heading into the third season of his regime and the team already could be in trouble.

After leading the Caleb Williams-less USC Trojans 17-13 after three quarters, the team collapsed. The Trojans ripped off a 14-3 run in the last quarter, winning it 27-20 in a massive upset.

The Trojans came into the game ranked 23rd, while the Tigers ranked 13th.

The New Orleans Saints will start their season about one week after the Tigers started theirs. As such, after feeling the sting of defeat in watching Brian Kelly's Tigers go down in flames in Week 1, Mathieu has reason to feel extra pressure to pull out a win.

However, some fans believe that the Saints are in a similar position to the Tigers in their first game of the season.

The Tigers came in as the favorites and lost. With the Saints taking on the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, most would pick Derek Carr to defeat Bryce Young. However, as the Tigers have demonstrated, favorites do not mean guarantees.

Young is heading into his second season and after struggling in his first year, he has reached a moment when most quarterbacks experience a step forward.

For example, Jared Goff started 0-7 as a rookie and the following year, he found himself in the playoffs.

As such, in a supercharged playoff-esque atmosphere riddled with anticipation, anything can happen. Will Tyrann Mathieu's Saints defeat their division rival?
