Tarrant County prosecutors makes decision in theft case against Chiefs WR Rashee Rice’s mother: Report

The legal saga surrounding Rashee Rice's mother has reached a surprising conclusion. Marsha Kearney's misdemeanor theft case in Tarrant County, Texas, has been dismissed, offering a fresh start for the Rice family amid the Chiefs' intense playoff season.

Court documents obtained by TMZ Sports claimed the complete resolution of the September package theft allegations.

To clear her name, Kearney completed several critical conditions. She finished a theft intervention program, performed 24 hours of community service and paid $125 in restitution. Court officials confirmed the case is now fully disposed of.

The case stemmed from a Sept. 29 incident where Kearney was captured on a neighbor's doorbell camera allegedly stealing Chappell Roan records from a porch.

This wasn't Kearney's first legal challenge. Earlier in 2024, she faced another theft charge involving an assortment of household items, including food, tumblers, laundry products, merchandise and socks. That previous case was also dismissed after Kearney met unspecified conditions.

Neither Kearney nor her son Rashee publicly addressed the allegations during the legal proceedings.

Notably, this legal clearance comes during a tumultuous year for Rice. The Chiefs receiver has already navigated multiple off-field challenges. This includes a multi-car wreck in March and an alleged nightclub incident in May where he was accused of punching a photographer.

The resolution arrives while Rice remains sidelined with a significant knee injury sustained in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Before his injury, he had impressive stats: 24 receptions on 29 targets, 288 yards and two touchdowns.

Rashee Rice's Instagram story on Thursday fueled fan theories about a potential playoff comeback. The photo featured Rice with teammates Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown in practice jerseys, creating a wave of speculation.

The Chiefs' receiving corps is already formidable, featuring DeAndre Hopkins, Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Juju Smith-Schuster, Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown. Rashee Rice's potential return could elevate an already dangerous offensive lineup.

Most analysts believe the Instagram post is likely just a playful social media moment and he cannot return this early.
