Taylor Swift might be the Chiefs' new makeshift offensive coordinator, jokes Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes shared some insight into Taylor Swift's newfound love for football on Thursday. The Grammy winning singer admitted last year that she didn't know much about the NFL when she began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in the summer of 2023.
After one full season of cheering for the tight end, which concluded with a Super Bowl win, Swift is now allegedly creating her own plays for the Kansas City Chiefs offense. Patrick Mahomes spoke about Swift's interest during an interview with Chris Simms on Thursday for the "NFL on NBC" show.
“She asks a lot of great questions. She’s already drawing up plays, so we might have to put one in," Mahomes said.
Mahomes also complimented Swift, saying that while she may be one of the most popular people in the world, she continues to be relatable.
Patrick Mahomes credited Taylor Swift for increasing NFL female viewership
Where Taylor Swift goes, the "Swifties" follow. The singer's loyal fan base was quick to jump into the world of the National Football League last season soon after she made her first appearance at Arrowhead Stadium in September.
Travis Kelce's jersey sales increased, as Kansas City Chiefs apparel also saw an increase in sales. Swift reportedly helped bring more female viewers to the game, an initiative the NFL has tried for several years.
Patrick Mahomes added on it:
“I think it’s been cool to see the girls and the women that have really embraced watching football. I know, being a girl dad, how cool it is for me. I mean, to see, like, these little girls, these daughters how much they’re loving and spending time with their dad watching football.”
Chiefs CEO and chairman, Clark Hunt also credited Taylor Swift for the 30% overall increase the fan base saw last season. It remains to be seen if that number grows in the upcoming season as Kansas City embarks on the hunt for a historic three-peat.
