"That ain't a captain": NFL analyst slams A.J. Brown after Eagles WR threw Jalen Hurts under the bus post-Panthers game
NFL analyst Craig Carton dropped a bombshell critique on Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown's leadership qualities. Carton called out Brown for his public frustration following the team's narrow 22-16 victory against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Carton is a prominent sports radio host while Brown has been a key player in the Eagles' impressive 11-2 season.
The critique emerged during Carton's "Breakfast Ball" show on Sunday where he dissected Brown's postgame comments about the Eagles' offensive struggles. Brown had openly expressed his frustration with the team's limited passing game during the matchup against the Panthers.
"They put a C on his chest, That ain't a captain," Carton said. "That's about I don't care if we win or lose. I want to get mine... There is a place to voice that."
A.J. Brown's comments came after a game where he was targeted just four times, catching three passes for 43 yards. His public critique highlighted the tension brewing within the team's offense, particularly regarding starting quarterback Jalen Hurts and Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore's game strategy.
"It is incredibly tough to get into a rhythm when the team passes just 20 times in a game," Brown said.
Jalen Hurts's performance has been declining amidst A.J. Brown's frustration
The Eagles have scored a league-low 17 points in the first quarters this season. Jale Hurts' passing attempts have dramatically decreased from 33 per game earlier in the season to just 21.4 during their nine-game winning streak.
Hurts delivered a modest performance, completing 14 of 21 passes for 108 yards. He threw two touchdown passes but also acknowledged the team's offensive struggles.
"I think (Carolina) did a good job. I think we did a bad job," Hurts said postgame.
Offensive lineman Jordan Mailata didn't hold back either.
"Momentum killers, stupid penalties," Mailata said.
Philadelphia had over 100 yards less than Carolina's passing attack in a game marked by five lead changes and multiple mental mistakes.
Brown's frustration isn't without merit. He hasn't scored a TD since Week 7 and has watched the team rely more on Saquon Barkley, who carried 20 times for 124 yards.
The Eagles are still in contention for the NFC's top seed but these internal tensions could prove more challenging than any on-field opponent.
