“That idea of loyalty has changed” – Odell Beckham Jr. claims he’s wary of NFL teams with free-agent WR yet to sign on dotted line
Odell Beckham Jr. is yet to sign with an NFL franchise after helping the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl last year. He went through meetings with several franchises, including the Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. However, he came away unsigned.
After spending the first part of his career with the New York Giants, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns. It was a disastrous move for him and he was eventually released, after which he signed with Los Angeles.
He has bounced around from team to team and might continue to do so. He's wary of the teams he might play for since, in his experience, loyalty is complicated in today's NFL.
He said this in an interview with Complex Magazine:
“I took a lot of time in the decision-making, and it wasn’t to build anticipation or nothing—this is my life, and I feel like I’ve been through a lot... Definitely, that idea of loyalty has changed a little bit. But it’s never going to make me waver from who I am.”
He admitted that loyalty has changed, but stated in plain terms that it won't change who he is. With concerns over his medical status, he may not end up signing anywhere this season. However, a return to the Giants, the team that first showed little loyalty to him, might occur at some point.
Will Odell Beckham Jr. sign this season?
Odell Beckham Jr. was supposed to be a key contributor for a contender down the stretch. As the playoff race heated up, Beckham was supposed to join a team and put them over the top.
That hasn't happened yet and time is running out for it to happen at all. After meeting with the Cowboys, it was leaked that they didn't believe he could help this season.
That probably hurt his chances and it definitely hurt his chances of landing with the Cowboys, the team that he's been linked to for some time. With every passing day, the NFL season gets closer to the end and a signing seems less likely.
