“The Aaron Rodgers era is over”: 2x Super Bowl champion calls time of death on 4x NFL MVP’s stint
Two-time Super Bowl Champion Damien Woody claimed the Aaron Rodgers era in New York is over. The Jets fell to 2-6 on the season with a 25-22 road loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Woody, who was a first-round pick in the 1999 NFL draft by the Patriots, took aim at Rodgers on Get Up on ESPN. The offensive guard played his final three seasons with the Jets and he wasn't pleased with Rodgers' play on Sunday.
“The Aaron Rodgers era is over. It’s officially over for the New York Jets," Woody said. "This team is worse this year than with Zach Wilson last year playing the quarterback position.
"On defense, they can’t get stops when they need stops. They’re basic on offense. They’re poorly coached. In the run game, they don’t even know the guys they have to block. Aaron Rodgers is a shell of himself.”
Rodgers hasn't looked like his old self as Woody claimed. In the loss to New England, the four-time NFL MVP went 17-for-28 for 233 yards and two touchdowns.
This season, Rodgers is 175-for-284 for 1,896 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Aaron Rodgers 'frustrated' with loss to Patriots
The New York Jets were stunned by the New England Patriots in Week 8. The Jets were upset by the Patriots and Rodgers said he was frustrated with the loss.
"Frustration," Rodgers said about the loss, via the team's website.
Rodgers then said winning in the NFL is hard but that is a game that the team needed to win:
"The NFL is hard to win, hard to ... really make it difficult on yourself. You know, offensively, we can't worry about what else happens. We got to be efficient. You know, we got to make the most of the opportunity."
Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich, meanwhile, said he was pissed off with the loss and his team's play, as New York needed to win this game to keep its slim playoff hopes alive.
"I'm pissed. They're pissed. I'm hurt. They're, they're hurt," Ulbrich said. "We are not executing in critical moments, especially down the stretch right there. We had opportunities to win this game. Should have won this game, and we do so give credit to the Patriots. It took advantage of a team that didn't execute as well as they can."
The Jets will return to the field at home on Thursday night against the Houston Texans.
