"The entire thing is dumb": Patrick Mahomes’ ex-teammate justifies Chiefs star ranking 4th on NFL top 100 list

Former Kansas City Chiefs star Mitchell Schwartz used to block for Patrick Mahomes. Now, he's calling out those upset about the quarterback's placement on the annual NFL Top 100 list. Mahomes finished fourth, behind Tyreek Hill, Lamar Jackson, and Christian McCaffrey. That prompted some outrage, but Schwartz believes it's totally understandable.

He pointed out that the voting takes place during the season. It's around Week 14, much like Pro Bowl voting. That means there are still four weeks left, but the voting can't change based on those four weeks.

Schwartz believes it's understandable that the three aforementioned stars were above Mahomes at the time of voting. Things might have changed down the line, but that's inconsequential to the former Chiefs star.

"To be fair the entire thing is dumb. It’s just a sheet with blank spots labeled 1-20 and team helmets around the perimeter to remind you of the teams. Some guys don’t vote, some write 5 names, some do all their friends. They package it well, but it should NOT be taken seriously," he added.

Patrick Mahomes MVP odds in 2024-2025

The only way for Patrick Mahomes to return to the top of the NFL Top 100 in 2024 is to play even better than he did last year, which would presumably be another MPV season from him. He's won that award twice already.

Per the odds, he's the favorite to do so. FOX Sports lists him at +475, which is a great number for a season that has not even begun. Here's the top of the list:

  • Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs: +475
  • C.J. Stroud, Texans: +850
  • Josh Allen, Bills: +900
  • Joe Burrow, Bengals: +900
  • Jordan Love, Packers: +1400
  • Lamar Jackson, Ravens: +1400
  • Jalen Hurts, Eagles: +1500
  • Brock Purdy, 49ers: +1600
  • Aaron Rodgers, Jets: +1600
  • Dak Prescott, Cowboys: +1700

Unsurprisingly, the list is full of quarterbacks. Will the Kansas City Chiefs star be able to outplay them all?
