"The threat is bullsh--": Jason Kelce fumes at the Sixers' proposed Center City arena
Jason Kelce is a Philly at heart after spending 14 years in the city. As such the former Eagles center took issues with the NBA franchise the Philadelphia 76ers’ proposed plans for the new stadium.
Currently, the 76ers rent the arena from Comcast Spectator, which also owns the NFL franchise the Philadelphia Flyers. The Philadelphia mayor and the 76ers announced the building of a new stadium in Chinatown on Wednesday with the city providing tax breaks worth $400 million.
Jason Kelce voiced his concern on X (formerly Twitter). The 2018 Super Bowl winner agreed with the notion of the 76ers having their arena built, he does not like the way the locals will be displaced from the proposed area.
“To be clear, I would absolutely support the Sixers building their own arena in South Philadelphia. The renting thing isn’t fair to them, I just hate the strong arming of the city to force an inevitable move into an area that the local residents, and vast majority of Philadelphians don’t prefer be in center city,” Kelce tweeted.
The former Philadelphia Eagles man also voiced his concern about the tactics used by the 76ers ownership. They had threatened the city of an eventual move away to another city if their wishes weren’t fulfilled.
“The threat of moving the team is bullshit, I hate it. Admittedly I was scarred growing up in Cleveland by Art Modell and the Browns, which the city of Cleveland messed up on, but it doesn’t change that I have a strong disdain for owners making these threats with zero care for what the fans or residents who support the team want,” he tweeted.
The new arena is reported to cost around $1.3 billion and will be completed by 2031 when the current lease of the 76ers is scheduled to run out.
Jason Kelce reacts to his viral dance moves
Jason shocked everyone on his podcast ‘New Heights’ with brother Travis Kelce by saying he wasn’t “drunk” during his viral performance at the Eagles tailgate. Younger brother Travis found that hard to believe but agreed that Jason Kelce was a far better dancer than him.
“Everyone thinks I'm the dancer,” said Travis. “Dude, you are the fucking most electric dancer I've ever met in my life. You can put a smile on anybody's face. It is so good.”
The former center recounted his appreciation of the Eagles fans and their energy at the tailgate before the Eagles game in Philadelphia.
