"There's a lot of false confidence": Packers Super Bowl WR calls out Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson had played only 12 games in the last three seasons, before the start of this season. However, his start was not as he would’ve envisioned, and several analysts have called the QB out after this performance. The loudest voice is the former Super Bowl winner James Jones.
The Cleveland Browns were handsomely defeated in Ohio by the Dallas Cowboys (17-33). This loss had many questioning the Browns. However, the former Green Bay Packers wide receiver did not want any blame on the hands of the head coach Kevin Stefanski.
While dissecting the weekend games on Monday, Jones on FS1’s ‘The Facility’ came to the aid of Stefanski, while throwing Watson under the bus.
“I've seen the two-time Coach of the Year,” Jones said. “I've seen him go out there with quarterbacks that do not have the talent of Deshaun Watson and win football games. So, I can't sit here and blame it on Cleveland. Deshaun Watson has not been good.”
Jones added that Watson lost his charm from his early days with the Houston Texans. The team and the QB might need to reevaluate things.
“I don't think Deshaun Watson knows he can do it no more,” Jones said. “I don't think Deshaun Watson believes he's that type of quarterback no more. I think it's a lot of false confidence, because at the end of the day, the athletic ability, how you were winning games in Houston, had nothing to do with the coach.
It was not the play scheme in Houston. It was you being Deshaun Watson making plays inside and outside the pocket.”
Watson threw 24 successful passes in 45 throws for 169 yards. He also had a touchdown to his name in the game courtesy of a field kick. The QB was intercepted twice during the game.
Deshaun Watson could be benched in the coming weeks
Former NFL quarterback turned analyst Dan Orlovsky took to X (formerly Twitter) after the game to float the idea of benching Deshaun Watson. He suggested the Browns think about the backup QB Jameis Winston.
“I’d think long and hard about Jameis.”
Winston has a ton of experience in the NFL. He started 70 games during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He could be the answer to the Browns’ offensive problems.
