Tim Tebow set to throw ‘Night to Shine’ prom night for people with disabilities

Tim Tebow's heart and faith have garnered him fans across the country. The former quarterback's event, "Night to Shine," returns for the first time since 2020. The event is a prom for people with disabilities and will be an in-person event in Waco, Texas at Crestview Church of Christ.

The “Night to Shine” event is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, a nonprofit created by the former Florida Gators star. The event will be held concurrently at hundreds of churches globally, including Crestview. Community Minister Scott Prather is leading this year’s event. He spoke to local news station KWTX in Waco about how the church can’t wait to return the event to its initial glory. Here's what he said:

“We had numbers drop when we had to do the shine-through and so many people were looking to do a full-night experience where they get to dance. They get to be really celebrated and come together. Our members are also extremely excited that they get to be with the kings and queens and help celebrate the night with them.”

Those attending the event must be at least 14 years of age. They will have a complete prom experience, from red carpet arrivals to makeup and a shoe shine. There will also be karaoke, dancing and food.

In 2018, Crestview first hosted the in-person prom to massive success with many volunteers and participants. A year later, the church was again chosen as the lone local host for the event, where the ages of Kings and Queens ranged from 14 to 82 years old. The event was hosted in-person prior to COVID-19 shutting nearly everything down in 2020.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner is no longer in the NFL. He was selected by the Denver Broncos in the first-round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Tebow played two seasons with Denver, starting 14 games. Overall, he threw for 2,383 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions with the Broncos. In the 2011 -2012 season, he led the Broncos to the playoffs, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 29 - 23 in the Wild Card round.

On this day, 9 years ago, #Broncos QB Tim Tebow pulled the biggest upset of the season when he beat the #Steelers with an 80-yard TD pass to Demaryius Thomas in the first play of overtime.

John Elway traded him to the #Jets in the off-season.

After spending the 2012 - 2013 season with the New York Jets, Tebow bounced around the league. He was signed by the New England Patriots but was cut in the preseason in 2013. In 2015, Tebow was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles but was again released in the preseason.

Under former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer, the quarterback found himself playing tight end in May 2021. However, the experiment didn't work as the Jaguars released him that August.
