Tom Brady breaks his own rule to give 23-TD QB "Star of the Week" award
Legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady broke his own rule by including Josh Allen in his "3 Stars of Week 14." Brady's criteria for making someone a Star of the Week thus far has been that the player must be on a winning team.
However, after Week 14, Brady broke his rule on Tuesday's "NFL on Fox" broadcast, giving the Buffalo Bills quarterback his star of the week despite the Bills losing 44-42 to the LA Rams.
"I know they lost, but he played so well," Brady said. "I'm breaking my rule and he's winning star of the week. It was awesome to see his command of the offense in person. He became the first player in history with three touchdown passes, three rushing touchdowns in a game. I know all you fantasy owners are super happy about that.
"He's going to have his hands full this week when the Bills take on the red hot Lions in Detroit."
In the loss to the Rams, Allen had one of the greatest games for a quarterback. He went 22-for-37 for 342 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 82 yards and another three touchdowns.
The six-touchdown performance was enough for Brady to give Allen Star of the Week despite the Bills loss.
Tom Brady wasn't the only one impressed by Allen, as despite the losing effort, his MVP odds drastically increased. Allen is now a -400 favorite to win the MVP, which implies an 80% chance. The signal-caller has 23 touchdowns going into Week 15 of the 2024 season.
The other two stars on Brady's list were Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold and LA Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua.
Josh Allen still believes he had to be better
Even though Josh Allen put up six touchdowns, the quarterback still put the blame for the Bills' loss on himself.
Allen said he had to find more completions. He also said he needed to get in for a touchdown on the first QB sneak so Buffalo didn't have to take a timeout.
"I have to make one more play than they do. It was a total team loss in three phases. We didn’t play up to our standards," Allen said. "I don't know how well we did on third down or completion percentage, I don't know any of that. I just know it wasn't good enough to win a football game. I just got to find more completions, got to be better for our guys."
The Bills will now go on the road to play the Detroit Lions on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
