Tom Brady FTX scandal: New report reveals NFL icon and ex-wife Gisele Bundchen attempted to curve lawsuit service

It looks as if the FTX scandal isn't going away any time soon for Tom Brady and others who were hit with a lawsuit after the controversial crypto platform went under. A new report suggests that he and his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen tried to avoid the lawsuit.

The official filing details significant efforts to serve him at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers headquarters on Dec. 21 and 22. They also tried at his home address.

The legendary quarterback's attorney signed a waiver of service on Dec. 27. As such, the waiver is extended to 60 days after service instead of the standard 20.

The plaintiff's motion read (via The Athletic):

“It took over half a dozen attempts at personal service on Mr. Brady before he told his counsel to finally accept the request for waiver of service form that was sent to them nearly a month prior."

It’s unclear whether or not Brady’s legal team, Latham & Watkins, had planned to waive service, which would have essentially made all the visits and service attempts moot.

Furthermore, Gisele Bündchen, who had partnered Brady in his sponsorship with FTX, also waived service on Dec. 27.

David Ortiz, another Boston sports legend, waived service on Jan. 11. Fellow NFL star Trevor Lawrence did so on Dec. 28. Shohei Ohtani, the MLB superstar, was served on March 1 and Steph Curry was on Feb. 24.

Clearly, this scandal is far-reaching and it's complicating things for every single person involved. It is currently unclear how all of this is going to resolve itself, but it's likely that it won't hurt the ultra-rich athletes named in the suit all that much.
