Tom Brady gets pulled into LeBron James debate after comedian Ron Funches’ comments
It's difficult not to mention Tom Brady as the ideal blueprint for any aspiring athlete. With seven Super Bowl rings and countless other NFL records to his name, Brady's legacy will forever be remembered among football fans.
But a trait of his that is perhaps more impressive than any of his other records is his longevity. The QB recently retired after wrapping up his 23rd season in the NFL.
Few athletes across the world of sports can claim to have played that long at the top level. One more than comes to mind is LA Lakers star LeBron James.
Ron Funches, known for his stand-up routines and appearances on various talk shows, made some thought-provoking remarks during an interview on the "Up and Adams" show.
Funches, an avid sports fan, took the opportunity to express his admiration for LeBron James and his exceptional longevity in the game:
"That’s just because of how great he (LeBron) is... We judge him basically on his past and what he’s done before. But to see a player this old still playing, his whole entire draft class is retired, moved on, selling cars at used car lots."
Funches went on to highlight how LeBron continues to defy his age and ball out in the NBA similar to how Brady did in the NFL:
"Dwyane Wade’s hosting a TV show, and LeBron's still out there balling, putting up 20 points, getting rebounds, affecting the game... At that age, it’s crazy. He should be like Robert Parish just sitting on the bench hanging out, knitting a sweater. But he’s not, he’s crushing it. He and Tom Brady are anomalies; we’ve never seen things like that before."
While both athletes have already secured their places among the greatest in their respective sports, their remarkable ability to stay competitive at an advanced age has become a subject of awe and discussion.
Tom Brady vs. LeBron James GOAT debate rages on
Tom Brady, widely regarded as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, defied the odds year after year. At the age of 43, he led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl victory in the 2020 season, capturing his seventh championship ring.
His relentless work ethic, dedication to maintaining peak physical condition, and unrivaled football IQ have propelled him to unprecedented success, with no signs of slowing down.
Similarly, James, often referred to as the "King" of basketball, has consistently displayed an extraordinary level of play throughout his illustrious career.
Even in his late 30s, James continues to dominate the court, guiding his teams to deep playoff runs and showcasing exceptional skills and leadership night after night.
Fans and analysts alike continue to discuss on social media platforms and sports talk shows as to which athlete has had the bigger impact on their respective sport.
While some argue that James' overall impact on the game of basketball makes him the more remarkable athlete, others contend that Brady's ability to play well into his 40s and win a title sets him apart from the competition.
