Tom Brady highlights how DeAndre Hopkins is exactly what Patrick Mahomes needed
One of the most notable trades made before the 2024 NFL trade deadline was the Kansas City Chiefs acquiring wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs only sent the Titans a fifth-round pick, that could turn into a fourth, for Hopkins, who has been one of the best wide receivers in the last 5-10 years.
It didn't take long for Hopkins to have success with his new quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. In Hopkins' second game as a Chief, he showed why they traded for him, hauling in eight receptions on nine targets for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Joining Colin Cowherd on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," former NFL quarterback Tom Brady spoke about how Mahomes is able to have success with Hopkins with the receiver still new to the team/their system.
Brady said:
"Like, there's such a learning curve that needs to happen from a rookie player, whereas when you get something like DeAndre, you go, 'Hey, DeAndre, run a slant and it looks like a slant.' It looks great. It's fluid, it's smooth.
"There's such a learning curve, there's so many things to learn that you're never going to get that type of production in a short period of time with a rookie that you can get with a veteran, unless that's just a very special rookie, and I've had some of those, those guys, to me, are more anomalies than kind of what the norm is."
After Monday night's win, DeAndre Hopkins said it's a "dream come true" to be a part of a team like the Kansas City Chiefs
Following the Kansas City Chiefs' Monday night victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where DeAndre Hopkins had two touchdowns in their 30-24 overtime victory, Hopkins spoke to ESPN's Laura Rutledge after the victory.
Hopkins was emotional in the postgame interview, fighting back tears talking about how special it is to be a part of a team like the Chiefs.
Hopkins said:
"Honestly, words can’t describe it. I’ve been patient. This is a dream come true to get my first win in a stadium like this on a team like this. Just gotta keep building the momentum.”
DeAndre Hopkins, being a part of the 8-0 Chiefs, has a real shot at winning a Super Bowl. In his 11 seasons prior to this year, Hopkins has made the postseason five times being part of the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and the Tennessee Titans.
It is almost a guaranteed lock that the Chiefs will be a playoff team and a top Super Bowl contender.
