“Why did you come back?” – Rich Eisen questions Tom Brady after Bucs QB’s military deployment stance

Tom Brady's had an unorthodox year full of drama and life-changing decisions. After testing the retirement waters, he decided to return to the NFL. Now, with a 3-3 start through six games, he's starting to feel the heat from pundits. Speaking on the Rich Eisen Show, show host Rich Eisen questioned why the quarterback decided to return this year. Here's how he put it:

"I know that he's gotten some grief for it as well. He got on his Let's Go! Podcast and said something along the lines of 'when you go into a season, it's kind of like going on a military assignment.' Clearly, he doesn't mean that he's putting his life on the line."

He continued, wondering why he decided to come back if he felt like playing for the NFL was like joining the military:

"What he's saying is that he's saying goodbye to his family. He's going into a spot where he's on assignment, a tour of duty, locked in. That was his analogy. But to hear him refer to it this way, you kind of wonder like, ‘Why did you come back?’"

For a quarterback who has been a pillar of stability for two decades, 2022 has been the least stable of Brady's NFL career. Earlier this year, the quarterback retired from the game. Six weeks later, he returned after a rumored move to become a part-owner of the Miami Dolphins fell through.

However, Brady didn't stop his post-NFL plans there. Later in the offseason, he signed a ten-year deal with FOX to call NFL games for the network. Once training camp rolled around, his attendance was once again in the headlines as he decided to leave the team for 11 days for personal reasons.

Now, over the weekend, the quarterback took an extra day off in the leadup to a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers that the quarterback ultimately lost. Many wonder if the quarterback will be back in 2023 but seemingly more are wondering if he'll finish the year looking like a player that wants to.
