Tom Brady apologizes for comments comparing NFL season to military duty: "It was a very poor choice of words"
Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar Tom Brady has had a rough few months since unretiring and returning to the NFL. The quarterback's marriage to his wife, former supermodel Gisele Bundchen, has been in tatters for months, and the couple is reportedly heading towards a $400 million divorce. Brady and Bundchen have steered clear of making any statements about their marriage.
His return to the field has been less than ideal, with the Buccaneers currently sitting at 3-3 primarily due to offense averaging, led by Brady, averaging only 20.2 points per game. His frustration boiled over during the Buccaneers' Week 6 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers as he was spotted yelling at his offensive line, for which he was heavily criticized.
But things did not get any better for the seven-time Super Bowl champion following that loss to the Steelers.
What did Tom Brady say about the military?
During an appearance on the Let's Go podcast, Tom Brady made an ill-advised comparison between playing in the NFL and being deployed on military duty. The quarterback said:
"I almost look at football season like you're going away on deployment. It's like, 'Man, here I go again.' There's only one way to do it."
Brady's comments did not go over well on social media, and during his press availability on Thursday, the quarterback apologized for his comment, saying:
"I made a statement about playing football in the military, and it was a very poor choice of words. I just want to express that to any sentiments out there that people may have taken it in a certain way. So I apologize."
The man with Midas' touch has been off his game on and off the field. Between the drama surrounding his marriage, the Buccaneers' struggles on the field, and the comments he made that came back to haunt him, Tom Brady has had a week to forget. But the quarterback continues to soldier on and prepare for what could be a massive week for the Buccaneers.
They will travel to Carolina to take on the struggling Panthers on Sunday before hosting Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in Tampa next Thursday. The Buccaneers need to be at the top of their game, or their season could derail even before they hit the halfway mark in their schedule.
