Tom Brady news: Why is NFL legend getting his own baseball cards? QB to feature on Topps collectibles
Tom Brady, who recently retired from the NFL, will be getting a new baseball card dedicated to him this year. Baseball cards have become an essential part of sports memorabilia. The rarer they are, the more valuable they get.
According to a recent press conference by Topps (a collectable company), they will be featuring Brady in one of their series later this year. Of course, the series will come with a few autographed versions of Tom Brady's card.
Usually, signed or limited cards end up selling for a higher value later on. That being said, the card needs to be well-maintained and in mint condition to garner its highest value.
Interestingly, the seven-time Super Bowl winner was a 1995 Montreal Expos draft pick. Apparently, it was players like F.P. Santangelo from the team who told Brady to choose football over baseball:
“We’re like why in the world would you make $800 a month, play in front of 100 people in the minor leagues, riding buses for ten hours when you can play in front of 100,000 people at (Michigan’s) Big House on Saturday."
He added:
We were supposed to say ‘Hey Tom, play baseball’ and we were like ‘Hey Tom, play football.’”
What are some extremely valuable Tom Brady rookie cards?
Last year, Brady's New England Patriots rookie card sold for $2.4 million at an auction. Said card was autographed and from the 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket set. PWCC conducted the auction, which saw the bids reach $1 million within 24 hours.
Vice President of Sales for PWCC, Jesse Craig, said that it was a highly-sought after card.
"This is an extremely desirable card featuring the greatest quarterback to ever play the game," PWCC president Jesse Craig told TMZ.
Only 100 of those cards exist. This one was in mint condition, and even had the perfect autograph. Here are a few other Brady cards that are considered valuable:
