"What are you made of?" - Tom Brady sends a message to injured Patrick Mahomes ahead of AFC championship showdown

Tom Brady has 23 years of experience in the NFL. So when he sends a message to quarterback Patrick Mahomes ahead of the AFC title game, one can assume that he knows what he is talking about.

Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain during the AFC Divisional game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said after the game that he will definitely play in the AFC championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.

Brady said that he spoke with Mahomes recently and told him that he is a tough guy and that type of determination and effort is what makes a champion. Brady also told Mahomes that he was very happy for him after the win and that he knew exactly why he felt the need to get back on the field after suffering the injury.

Here's what Tom Brady said on the "Let's Go!" podcast:

“He's a tough guy and I told him this the other night, that's what I said. I'm just really happy for you. And that's what champions are made of at the end of the day.
"You got to go out there and you got to do what he did or else, then f*** it. You make it this far and do what? Just let some other team know you pushed the limit and you go look, this is what I'm here for.”

Brady referenced Michael Jordan's famous game in which he played with a high fever and still had one of the best outings of his career. He said that performances like this can be an inspiration to others in their lives:

“This is what's inspiring about sports. It's not ‘how do I feel great all the time?’ Everyone talks about Michael Jordan when he was sick and you know, you watch other people come out and be injured. That's what we respect about sports… You want to inspire people to dig really deep within themselves, not just physically, or just emotionally, not just mentally."

Tom Brady then went on to say that for a professional athlete you have to say to yourself, "What are you made of?" He said that he respected that he wanted to get back out on the field even though his coaches and training staff made him stay out for the remainder of the first half.

“What are you made of? And I think a lot of times, especially in today's sports, we're not really teaching much about that. So I really respect Patrick for how he came out there in the second half and how p***ed he was when he got taken out by Coach Reid. But to come out in the second half and play great, that was awesome to watch.”

Tom Brady clearly knows what it's like to have a game on the line in the playoffs and what it takes to have so much success at such a young age. Patrick Mahomes will try to make his way to a third Super Bowl appearance in four seasons.

Tom Brady was upset at being asked about his future

Every Monday, NFL fans are treated to a new episode of the "Let's Go!" podcast. It's an opportunity to hear what Tom Brady has to say about previous games and about what is happening around the NFL.

His co-host Jim Gray asked the seven-time Super Bowl winning quarterback if he had a timetable for when he will make his decision about his future.

Brady was clearly not happy about Gray asking him about this. He responded:

"If I knew what I was going to f***ing do, I would have f***ing done it already. I'm just taking it day by day."

The 45 year old quarterback will be an unrestricted free agent this season after three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 2022 season is not the type of campaign he expected, so perhaps another year is in store for Tom Brady. But everyone will have to wait to hear his decision because he clearly doesn't know the answer as of yet.
