Tom Brady shocked Rob Gronkowski by choosing Bucs in free agency

When Tom Brady announced that he was leaving New England after two decades, many wondered where he would take his talents. There were a host of teams vying for his services, but ultimately, it was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who secured his signature.

The move to Tampa caught a lot of people off guard, including his former teammate and long-time friend Rob Gronkowski. He linked up with Brady in Tampa and won the Super Bowl in 2020 as the move paid dividends.

Fancy a bet on the Super Bowl?

Brady's initial move to Tampa Bay left Gronkowski a little shocked as he knew little about the team and the city. Speaking on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, Gronkowski revealed his thoughts about when he found out the veteran quarterback had chosen Tampa Bay as his new team.

Gronkowski said:

"I was actually ready for another opportunity. I just wanted to test the market. Go to another team and just see what it was all about. So I actually told him, 'yo man, if you got another team, I'd possibly be down to go with you.'"

Gronkowski added:

"I was looking at like two other teams though, and that he went to the Buccaneers, I was like, 'the Buccaneers?' I don't even know anything about the Buccaneers. No one knew anything about the Bucs, like Tampa didn't even know anything about the Bucs."

In nearly three years, Brady has brought success to the Buccaneers organization, winning a Super Bowl in his first year and being in the playoffs all three years.

While this is the first season of his career with a losing record, the Buccaneers still managed to grab a home playoff berth by winning the NFC South.

While at the time Gronkowski and many others questioned the veteran's decision, it now appears to have been a good move. Tampa Bay was brimming with talent and Brady brought the Lombardi Trophy home.

With his future again in the spotlight, the 45-year-old superstar could be in new colors next season.

But who will he sign with? Or will he finally retire after 23 wonderful seasons?
