“We got you” – Tom Brady throws weight behind Devin White amid Bucs star’s beef with NFL Hall of Famer
Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White took a lot of heat last week after the team's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Former Bucs defensive tackle who won a Super Bowl with the team in 2002, Warren Sapp took to Twitter last week to call out White.
While watching a clip from last Thursday night's game, Sapp said that he felt White wasn't giving his all and that he essentially didn't deserve to be one of the team's captains.
“I want you all to watch this one. Or better yet, I want you to watch the effort of the captain right here, No. 45. I want you to watch the captain. How do you show up with your defense on Monday morning with this type of effort? I’d ask for your ‘C’ off your chest. … Are you kidding me right now? What is that?”
The Athletic's Greg Auman, who covers the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, tweeted about the linebacker's response to Sapp's comments.
Sapp said that his teammates know exactly how he plays and he gives it his all. He also claimed that fatigue played a part in his lack of execution, which some have referred to as 'loafing'. The linebacker also received support from his quarterback Tom Brady.
Brady retweeted the post and said that it is going to take the entire team to turn things around. The legendary quarterback also affirmed that the team was behind White.
"It's gonna take all of us. We got you @DevinWhite__40 #GoBucs"
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to shake off this losing streak on the upcoming Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
How long has LB Devin White played in the NFL?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted linebacker Devin White with the fifth overall selection in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. White played three seasons at LSU and his selection made him the highest-drafted defensive player in LSU history.
In just his second professional season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Devin White was part of a defense that was one of the best in the league. It was able to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs en route to a Super Bowl win at home.
He is now in his fourth season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his career so far, the 24-year-old has started 53 games, with 255 solo tackles, 18 sacks, five forced fumbles, one interception, and 422 total tackles.
The team chose to exercise his fifth-year option, which means that Devin White won't be a free agent until after the 2023 NFL season.
