Tom Brady hints he regrets not retiring after winning Super Bowl with Bucs in 2021
Tom Brady won his most recent Super Bowl in his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.
It was his seventh Super Bowl victory and his first with the Buccaneers. After finishing his 21st season on top, many thought he would retire instead of coming back for two more seasons.
In Brady's latest episode of his "Let's Go" podcast with Jim Gray and Larry Fitzgerald, he talked to actor Kenan Thompson about many things.
The two discussed Tom's SNL hosting stint in 2005. They discussed the best sports stars who ever appeared on the show. They also talked about how sports bring communities together.
In the interview, Brady alluded to regretting not retiring after his most recent Super Bowl victory.
Brady said, regarding his turn on SNL:
"I learned my lesson. Like, when you win the Super Bowl, walk out. And I don't know ... but it felt like I won the Super Bowl because of my level of ability as an actor. So I felt like I did a decent job. I certainly know you know, award-winning performance, but I enjoyed it.
"And I dropped the mic. And I said, One and done. Do I like it? Um, I have fun with it. So yeah, I mean, it's definitely outside of my comfort zone. So I'd say more anxious and nervous."
He went on to speak about his respect for the SNL cast:
"But then once I get it done, I'm happy I get it done. But, man, it's ... that was a unique experience. Because that was live. You know, I have a lot of respect for those guys, those guys do things on the cuff. You know, and it's just they're making it happen.
He compared the way they prepare for each live show to the way he and his teammates prepare for games:
"And you know, they got to perform every single week. And I think when you see their routine and them staying up late, it's so much how we prepared in football."
"They write. They talk about it on Tuesday. They rehearse on Wednesday. They rehearse on Thursday. They rehearse on Friday. They all get a good night's sleep. They come in on Saturday, and it's game day.
"So it's really familiar, that routine, and it's just, you know, in a different area of entertainment. And those guys have been killing it for so many years that that show is brought so, so many smiles to so many people, so many people have made their ... started their careers, you know, on that show.
"And people that you think now you know how much joy they bring to people's lives in their homes every Saturday night. So it's pretty neat. It was great to be a part of it."
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady may not be in place for a Super Bowl run this season
The Buccaneers aren't the same contenders this season as they were the last two seasons.
Although they are in first place in their division, the NFC South, they hold a losing record of 4-5 through their first nine games. Last season, they finished 13-4. In Brady's Super-Bowl winning year with the team, they went 11-5.
The Bucs haven't played as well this season, but they have been plagued with many injuries to their offensive line and wide receiver group. As we get closer to December and January, the Bucs could get hot and Brady could possibly get one more crack at another Super Bowl.
