Travis Kelce calls caution on Saquon Barkley's 'hurdle' play vs Jaguars: "That is a safety hazard"
Running back Saquon Barkley has been the highlight of the Philadelphia Eagles' offense this season. The 27-year-old not only showed his skills as a runner in Week 9, but also his overall athleticism.
Early in Sunday' s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Barkley did a reverse hurdle over a defender, allowing him to pick up a few more yards.
On this week's episode of the "New Heights" podcast, Jason and Travis Kelce talked about the incredible hurdle. Travis Kelce advised young football players not to try something of that caliber. To which his older brother, Jason Kelce, agreed.
Travis: "Kids, do not f***ing do that."
Jason: "Please do not try and hurdle people backward. Don't do it."
Travis Kelce then continued by joking that football should be played on the ground, not in the air. He said that Saquon Barkley was able to pull off such a feat because he is athletic and unless someone is that athletic, they should not attempt such a play.
Travis: "Football is not meant to be played in the air. I promise you that, unless you're an incredible athlete, if your athleticism is far more superior than everybody else is on the field, do whatever the f*** you want. But outside of that, do not try it, that is a safety hazard."
Saquon Barkley downplayed one-of-a-kind hurdle
Saquon Barkley isn't one to brag about himself or his athletic abilities. After the Philadelphia Eagles pulled off the 28-23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the running back was asked about what went through his mind when he did a reverse hurdle.
Barkley downplayed it and told CBS Sports' AJ Ross that he just let his body 'react' to what was going on and make whatever move necessary. He said the play was 'cool' but didn't give much more excitement than that.
"Let my body just react. That play was cool and all."-Saquon Barkley said in the postgame interview.
Although Barkley didn't give himself kudos, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni did. After the game, he told reporters that it was the best he had ever seen and that the running back is likely the only person who could pull that off.
"The best play I've ever seen"-Nick Sirianni said.
Sirianni even told reporters that he knows that younger football players will try and depict Barkley's reverse hurdle in their own games, which the head coach thought was a cool prospect.
