Travis Kelce delivers crucial Patrick Mahomes injury update ahead of Week 16 clash vs Texans

Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce gave an injury update on Patrick Mahomes ahead of Week 16. Mahomes suffered an ankle injury in Week 15.

The quarterback was a full participant in practice on Tuesday, but his status is still very much up in the air.

Speaking on his New Heights podcast, Kelce said Mahomes has been taking all the reps this week, but if he can't go, the Chiefs have full confidence in Carson Wentz.

"Yeah, I don't know what's gonna happen for Christmas, but I know this weekend Pat's been taking all the reps," Kelce said on his podcast at 19:58. "But what we do know is that Carson is prepped and ready and ready to rock and roll like he always is. One of the pros Pro, as they say it in the league.
"The guy takes his job very serious and is always ready for the opportunity if it presents itself," Kelce added. "But we all know Pat. He's one of the toughest guys in the league. You know, he's going to play through anything and everything that he possibly can making sure that the team's best interest is there."

Kansas City is coming off a 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Patrick Mahomes is not ruling out playing in Week 16

Patrick Mahomes is hoping to play on Saturday but says he won't know until later on in the week.

Mahomes wants to see how his ankle holds up in practice but says he doesn't want to hinder the team if he can't play.

"I don't want to limit the game plan," Mahomes said, via Fox. "That's another thing for me. I want to be able to still be able to move around the pocket so we're not just sitting in one spot the whole entire game and leading the D-line to get after it. So, it's about me finding that balance and seeing where I'm at and, like I said, I won't know until closer to the end of this week."

Mahomes went 19-for-38 for 159 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs' Week 15 win over the Cleveland Browns.
