Travis Kelce puts retirement speculations to bed as Chiefs eye historic three-peat - "Going to do it till the wheels fall off"

Travis Kelce has mentioned in the past about contemplating retirement "more than anyone could imagine." But for now, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is focused on the future with the team and hopes retirement doesn't happen soon.

In April this year, Kelce and the Chiefs agreed on a two-year contract extension worth up to $34.3 million. This deal made the star tight end the highest-paid player in his position.

Speaking to the reporters on Tuesday at the Chiefs mandatory minicamp, Kelce said he plans to play “until the wheels fall off."

"I really I can't put a timeframe on it [retirement], man," Kelce said. "I love coming to work every single day. Obviously, I know there's opportunities outside of football for me. I think you got to keep in perspective that you know I'm still a little kid when I come into this building, man."

Kelce added:

"I know I'm 34 years old, about to be 35. But I have a love to do this right here in the middle of the heat in June. I love coming to work every single day and doing this. So, I'm going to do it till the wheels fall off and hopefully that doesn't happen anytime soon."

The opportunities Travis Kelce mentioned include taking his talents to Hollywood and sports media. The Chiefs TE is set to host game show 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?.' He is also set to feature in Ryan Murphy‘s FX horror series ‘Grotesquerie.’

Kelce admitted that he is towards the end of his football career than the beginning. He added that he wants to be set up for life after his NFL career as well.

With retirement taking a side step, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs eye three-peat

After Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce has been the most influential part of the Kansas City Chiefs' dominance in the last five years. Heading into 2024, the AFC giants will have eyes on a historic feat, which no NFL team has done in the Super Bowl era - a three-peat.

En route to their Super Bowl LVIII win against the San Francisco 49ers, Kelce recorded 93 receptions for 984 yards in the regular seasons and 32 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs.

Travis Kelce has the resume of a first-ballot Hall of Famer with three Super Bowl wins, 9 Pro Bowl selections, and four first-team All-Pro selections. Another Super Bowl win in 2024 will cement his spot as the greatest TE in NFL history, if not already.
