Travis Kelce raves about Xavier Worthy as rookie preps for Chiefs debut

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, in his 11 years on the football field, has seen and done it all. However, the veteran has never seemed this excited about a rookie. The tight end is seemingly preparing the world for the coming of wide receiver Xavier Worthy this season.

Texas Longhorns standout Worthy made a mark for himself after setting a record time during his 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. He carried it forward with a tremendous catch during training camp that had the entire world on its feet. Yet Kelce pointed out that there is more to the rookie than his speed.

On Tuesday, during his podcast "New Heights," Travis Kelce couldn’t help himself but talk about the new prospect in the Chiefs’ wide receiver room.

“Some guys have the speed, and some guys are just football players,” Kelce said. "Man, he's intelligent. He's picking up on the offense very smooth. He can see things and react. So, his reaction and his awareness is up there. And then on top of that, he has absolute speed that is unworldly.
"And that's the biggest thing in this offense, kind of getting used to as a rookie, is being able to see and trust what you're seeing so that you're on the same page as your quarterback and he's doing a great job with it so far. I'm excited for it, man. He seems like one of those guys that rises up to the occasion when the lights are on. And I'm pumped for the man.” [31:15]

The Kansas City Chiefs start their three-peat campaign against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. It will be interesting to see if Worthy will get a few snaps in the game, despite the Chiefs being loaded at the WR position.

Travis Kelce talks about retirement

On Tuesday, Travis Kelce appeared on the "Rich Eisen Show," and the conversation drifted toward retirement. The 34-year-old said in clear terms that the day when he hangs up his cleats is far away.

“I'm just having so much fun," Kelce said. "I'm just so appreciative and so fortunate that I've been able to come into year 12 and still have this energy and this love and the ability to go out there and get to work.”

Kelce also added that the excitement of trying to become the first team in the history of the NFL to achieve a three-peat has motivated him for this year.
