Travis Kelce has his say as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell eyes 8 international games in 2025
The NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell are all about expanding and helping the sport of football grow. One of the biggest ways the NFL helps the sport grow is by hosting international games in different countries. Roger Goodell has hinted at the NFL hosting eight international games next season in 2025.
On Wednesday's episode of their podcast, "New Heights," brothers Jason and Travis Kelce spoke about the NFL expanding international games in the near future. Both seem to be open to the idea, with a few stipulations.
Travis is calling for a game to be played in Australia while Jason hopes that whenever the Eagles play internationally, they're away.
Here's their back-and-forth conversation about the topic:
"Travis Kelce: Is this too much? Is this too much flying? That's what I'm fu--ing saying, man. Send me to the fu-king moon." [1:09:33]
"Jason: I am all in. I'm all in on all these international games. As long as most of the Eagles games are still in Philadelphia, I'm all in on all the international games."
"Travis: I love the international games. Maybe get one over in Australia, though."
"Jason: They've been talking about that for a while. I want us curious that he didn't mention Australia. We've been going east. Let's go west."
Travis would likely be open to playing more games internationally. On an older podcast with his brother Jason, he said he would leave the Chiefs for a London-based team and thinks the NFL will have an overseas team in the next decade.
Roger Goodell announces major plans for international games for next season
Each year, the NFL has a handful of games played overseas or in another country. This year, games were played in the U.K., Germany, Brazil and Mexico.
Before last week's game between the New York Giants-Carolina Panthers in Munich, Germany, Roger Goodell spoke about the NFL's potential lineup for international games next season, saying that the NFL will also try to host a game in Ireland.
Roger Goodell said:
"We are definitely going to Spain, we announced that. We expect to return to Mexico City. We expect to return to Brazil. We will certainly be back in the U.K. And we're also looking at the potential of another game in the U.K. area in Ireland, possibly. That's a possibility. And we'll certainly be back here in Germany. So if that total's eight, that's what we're shooting for."
This would be the first time the NFL hosts a game in Ireland.
As fans across the world love international games, having the opportunity to see NFL teams for the first time in live action, it comes with a cost for players and team's traveling. Some players have spoken out on the lack of rest they get during the week of an international game.
