Travis Kelce once spilled the secret for his ideal partner years before Taylor Swift romance: "I need her to cheer"
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce began dating sometime in the summer of 2023. She became the Kansas City Chiefs' biggest fan throughout the 2023 NFL season and supported Kelce and his team to another Lombardi Trophy.
Long before the two met and began dating, the Chiefs tight end gave insight into what he was looking for in a partner.
In 2016, he was interviewed on "WhoSay" and said that he was looking for a supportive significant other. He indicated that his girlfriend didn't need to attend every football game, she just needed to "cheer" and be excited when he and the Chiefs had success.
"If you're dating a professional athlete I do not believe at least for me that, you have to go to all the games. I mean there's eight home games, eight away games plus playoffs. I don't even expect my parents and my friends to make every single game... I need her to cheer when we're doing awesome just to make sure that look is being presented to everyone... I don't know it's all fun and games for me but I'd rather have my girl look absolutely gorgeous in something that she's comfortable in...
"Being around the Chiefs Kingdom in Kansas City it gets crazy and it gets hectic and a lot of attention is on me and if she's on my side it's gonna be on her too... so there's so much focus on the actual game that when the game is over with all you want to do is not talk about the game not even think about football just be a person on the street enjoying a dinner with family or just to drink with friends and your girl," Kelce said in 2016.
Kelce and Swift's relationship seems to have all of the qualities that he was looking for back in 2016. She has now attended 15 Kansas City Chiefs games, debuts a new gameday look each time, and shows her support whenever she can.
Travis Kelce confirmed Taylor Swift's attendance in Week 5
It's no secret that Travis Kelce has an uptick in production when Taylor Swift is in attendance. Last season, the tight end averaged nearly 80 yards per game when she was in the stadium.
Swift has only attended two games so far this season, but the tight end's numbers weren't impressive, which could be blamed on the offense's woes and a little hangover from their latest Super Bowl win.
On Monday night, the 4-0 Chiefs will take the field at Arrowhead Stadium and will face the New Orleans Saints. According to the veteran star, Swift will be in attendance for the Monday night showdown.
"She will not be here right now. I know she's coming in for the game," he told a fan, according to the New York Post.
While hosting his "Kelce Car Jam," the Chiefs tight end was asked if Swift was at the event. He said she wasn't but that she would be in town for the game.
